Question 1966 Jaguar 3.4 S Type Wiper Motors

Dears,

Has anyone upgraded their wiper motors on a Mk2 or S Type ? If so some useful pointers/info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for any feedback - Derek

Have a look at Wiper System Upgrade ? Valve Chatter Lin upgraded his, he will have all the info there as he has so well documented everything he did.

the wiper motor in my 1965 S type is superior to the wiper motor in my 1984 XJ-6.

it is faster and can keep up with any rainstorm, but the XJ-6 cannot.

why would you want to change it?

Hi Jose,

The only reason being I need to reülace because the fast speed no longer works and was just wondering if there was something somewhat better than buying a straight replacement.

I see.
Have you checked the Switch at the steering column?
Have you checked the carbon bushes at the motor?

you might ask the question at the S Type Register forum, where there are more S type owners who might offer suggestions.

Littlejonah

The DR3 wiper motor has a resistance wire wrapped around the field winding, these can get burnt out and the fast speed will not work.

If you have a read of this you may be able to check where the fault lies, it could be the switch, the resistance wire or a bad connection, it wont be the brushes unless the slow speed does not work either. https://www.thorden.dk/Teknik/two-speed.pdf

See how you get on
