Default 62 MK2, Reassembling Front Suspension

I removed the front suspension assembly. What a great way to build a car. No need to hang the engine like on newer cars. But anyway it’s been taken apart powder coated all bushings replaced. Anything that can be replaced has been. Now I’m installing the nice shiny powder coated springs. When I search for a spring compressor all I find is strut tools. Can someone recommend or sell me a proper tool?
Thanks!

Maybe you can cobble up something to do the same thing BUT BE CAREFUL!

What you do is get 4 pieces of threaded rod in 3/8 UNF, each at least a foot long. Thread that into the corners of the control arm, and then assemble the spring and lower spring pan, with the rods going through the spring pan bolt holes . Put a small spacer, or a stack of washers on top to bring them level or a bit proud of the lip of the spring pan. Then put a nut on each rod and start tightening each a bit at a time. A ratcheting wrench works very well for this.

Keep working your way around the rods, tightening each nut a bit at a time until the spring pan finally contacts the control arm. Then install the final bolts into the spring pan to the control arm, as there should be 2 unused holes in the spring pan. Then loosen and remove the threaded rods one at a time and replace each rod with the proper bolt.

Take it slow and carefully and it's perfectly controlled and safe. I like this method because the holes on the spring pan are automatically aligned to put in the final bolts.

Agree with JB. You can add a heavy rod through the middle to combine the methods. As Glyn and JB wrote, be careful and go slowly as there's a lot of energy in a compressed spring and it can be fatal if it's all released at once.

I like that method! I had a rod down the center with oak blocks at the ends and four threaded rods for guiding.I was close but it was just too jammed up and the nut started to spin and I could see death laughing at my folly. So I stopped and reassess my life’s choices. Then asked for help, thanks.

Hi Farina43537,
I see you are in Maumee, if you join either the Ohio, Michigan or any Jag club you can borrow factory tools from the Coventry Foundation for the price of shipping the tool back and forth. It would be safer than rigging up something up that might work.
