I've read several posts about removing the side moldings but can't seem to pry mine loose. Anyone got a tip and how to proceed. I'm afraid of butchering mine trying to get off.
I used a plastic trim removal kit from Amazon ~ Obviously not in stud & nut places.
Aren't there two types of clips? It's been 20ish years since I restored my car, but I recall one type that looked like a clothing snap and the chrome snapped into place and the other kind slid into the end of the chrome and then attached through openings in the door skin. I think the chrome slid over those clips, not snapped into place.
Yes JB ~ there are a multitude of clips apart from the lopsided stud with nut that you slide over. You have to use them on the chrome strip on the front doors & centre bonnet or the strips blow off ~ but there are clips for the number plate box strips & bushes for the spears and the list goes on & on. I did a full list for the late DevilDog on the Register ~ You will find it in his thread. The number of different fixtures is staggering when you start including gutter centre clip etc. Not in kit. Mainly read from page 4 but read the whole thread.
Make sure you buy the correct pop riveter with small shank that goes inside the the dome of the clip so that the rivets are tight before the tang breaks off.

that yellow one is sold at Harbor Freight Tools, biggest piece of crap I ever dealt with. Fortunately the one I got was free. It works on non-precision jobs.
