I am getting ready to prep my XJ40 for a repaint. The clearcoat is cancerous on the hood,bonnet and trunk lid.
I have searched the workshop manual for instructions regarding the removal of this piece of exterior trim and came up empty-handed. I am posting a pic of the trim I want to remove.
Without doing any dismantling of the car, Does anyone know how this piece of trim is affixed to the car? Is it a push on piece with grommets? or do I have to remove the seat belt and interior trim to access any fixtures.
Here is a pic of the said trim. It is the piece that goes across the bottom of the C-pillar

When I read your first post earlier, I couldn't remember why I didn't remove those "E Post Finishers" before I had our '93 repainted, so I just now looked up the part diagram at jaguarclassicparts.com. They are pop-riveted onto the body (part 10 is labeled as a pop rivet):

Your finishers look a little different from the ones in the illustration, but if you discover they are riveted on, I would imagine you could carefully drill out the rivets, then reinstall with new rivets after your paint is done.
