Default Borg Warner 35 wrong ATF ?

Hello all,

I'm working on a Daimler V8 with Borg Warner 35 that was leaking oil. Got as far as filling it back up but it has had Dexron in it which I found out is really wrong for this box. We were able to get ATF Suffix A, which was recommended by a website from an oil supplier and also in the manual but I also see Suffix F recommended even more than type Suffix A.

I'm curious what the concensus is on which oil type to use, and which type others are running? Will the transmission hold up with Suffix A and a couple flushes to get the Dexron out of the system?

You should use type F (or G), such as Castrol TQF. If our lubricants expert Glyn Ruck were about, he would explain that it's a matter of the friction additives. Dexron will not immediately damage the box, in the short term it may even give smoother changes, but it will increase the rate of wear of the clutch friction plates.

Hi Peter,
Have you heard anything about how Glyn is doing? I miss he's input on this forum.

Bob,
I've not heard from Glyn since November, a brief thanks for good wishes. I don't know if anyone else has?

Likewise, I have been worried about Glyn and have been keeping him in my prayers. He has given me excellent adivse and info via PM on any number of occasions. A great resource for us and one we really miss.

I Emailed Glyn a couple of days ago but have not had a reply which is worrying. Over the last couple of months he has replied to emails but with very curt messages saying he is OK but for him not to reply now is very worrying.

I also sent him an email on Monday and haven't yet received a reply, which isn't typical. He posted on here that he had a gut problem. Symptoms that start there at our age tend be very difficult. Let's hope that he's receiving some good treatment and he'll be back soon.

For BW35 expert info go to the Classic Rover Forum. They use the same box in the old Rovers and there is lots of info there. You must use non Dextron fluid.
I am currently servicing my BW35and had to travel to UK to get the correct fluid.
