2001-2004 have somewhat looser tolerances (relatively speaking), and the factory recommends standard oils. (or, more accurately, they don't recommend synthetics)
I succesfully used full synthetic on my 2002, but if you have any weak gasket seals, the synthetic will find them and leak. Generally, it's best to use what you're already using.
Castrol recommends a full synthetic (Edge 5W30), which is what the 2005 I just picked up has been running on since 15K under dealer service.
