Default Estimated Surviving S types

there are approximately 1006 surviving Jaguar S types in the entire world, of the 24 thousand made from 1963 to 1968.

here's mine, one of 75 from 1965 known, and yes, that's me with the back to the camera, sorry!

Jose,

It looks superb. I didn't realise they had disappeared at such a rate.

Graham, the S type is becoming very rare. The research was done by:

That's a gorgeous car and is the precise reason I chose a 'modern' S-type as my first Jag.

I'm curious as to where the data comes from for these stats- it seems to be GB only, and strictly cars that are presently registered. Perfectly preserved examples stuck in the back of a barn or on the road overseas seem not to be part of the tally. Am I reading this correctly?

you are reading this correctly, it does appear now that the data is for the UK only, I received the link from the S type Registrar who might have also misunderstood it, so I might be wrong too. I wrote to the owner of the site to confirm.

I contacted the S type Registry: The figures in the above chart are worldwide, not UK-only. So the info is correct: there are approximately 1,006 surviving S type worldwide.

NOTE: I agree this figure cannot account for cars hidden away in barns or abandoned in parking garages. across the world but what would we be talking about in numbers?

Wow!

I had no idea they were that scarce. My collection of 3 has just become more interesting to me...

'65 LHD 3.8 S automatic

lucky for us who own Jaguar S types!

btw: do you have a source for the two shaped-foam blocks located behind the reverse lights' chromed housing?
thanks.

Ummm, the website CLEARLY states in several spots that it's UK only. For privacy reasons, most countries do not release info on cars, other than to the present owners or law officers. The owners of this site would not be supplied any info on cars registred in the US or Canada. As an example, it shows the total volume of 2012 Corvettes in existence as ~130 cars, vs. the 11.5K that were produced.
