Default How do I remove existing Ignition Cylinder w/o Ignition Key? '66 3.8 S

Hello,

All juiced up and ready to start, and...behold misplaced Ignition Key!

Ordered new set, arrived today.

Question: How do I remove the existing Ignition Cylinder without having the original key?

I've accessed the panel, removed the actual Ignition Housing, tinkered with it, but to no avail.

Any help?

Somewhere underneath you'll find a small hole to press a pin in and withdraw the cylinder. Can't recall if it will withdraw without the key. I'll bet you don't have the key number either?

A halfassed locksmith can align the pins with a bit of tension on the lock assembly. They are really a lame security device....

Smile Thanks but this is an older model cylinder.

I've seen the posts/pics JITS manual for the newer models and yes, there is a small hole.
Not this one.
It only has a large hole which reveals a portion of the internal spring mechanism.
Problem is I can't turn the key (there isn't one) to get the cylinder into the 'Start' position, to then slide out the cylinder.

I'm ok with drilling it and/or other remedies, just need a 'how to'.

Thanks again.

I've got a giant ring of keys from over 60 years of Brit cars, my father in law started it. If I could have some assurance I'd get it back I could send it to you and you could laboriously try each one. When one works you could note the nimber and order from the usual sources.

I've found over the decades that there aren't many times I couldn't find a key that works considering the wear. File cabinet keys are readily available and often work.
