Default Indicator Flasher lights in Upper Steering Column Cover

Hi
When I bought my Jaguar Mark 2 1961 2.4, there was a lot of the interior missing. This included the upper and lower steering column covers, which I have since purchased. The indicator flasher lights are in some way mounted in the upper steering column cover. I cannot find how these lights are mounted in the upper steering column cover.
I also bought a translucent cowl badge that is supposed to fit in the upper steering column cover . It has Jaguar in the middle and two arrows to show the flasher direction. It also has a sticky pad on the back. Not only does this cowl badge not fit but it has nothing to stick to. How is this cowl badge fixed?
Can anyone help me with this a photo would be great.

Is it a manual or automatic.
Mine is a manual and the left and and right indicators are on either side of the "Jaguar" letters in the upper steering column cover.
On an automatic, that same space is used for the shift indicator letters, there should be enough room for them as it points out in the photo.
They're mounted as a friction fit into small rubber boots in the upper cowl cover.

It sounds like that you still may be missing a few bits, a photo on your end would be helpful to see what may be missing.
#57 is what it shows in the parts book and should come as complete assembly.
The actual bits are not shown, but from memory there are two small screws into the plastic that holds things in place.
I don't recall any thing that uses any sort of adhesive in that area.
The three wires in the parts photo shows the middle one is too light up the letters for the automatic shift lever and the two on the end are for left and right.

Here are some very useful photos from an eBay sale showing the unit.

There are 4 different basic inserts in the quadrant & there are harness variations.

1) 4 speed manual. Display says Jaguar with green flasher lights on both sides
2) 4 speed manual with overdrive. Backlit display says overdrive with flashers on either side. Lights up when OD selected.
3) Later 4 speed manual with OD. Backlit display says overdrive with a central red light above it & flashers on either side. Both light up when OD engaged.
4) Auto. Numerous backlit displays in the quadrant with selector options dependent on gearbox & generation fitted and green flashers on either side.

Covers.

I will search for a picture of the cover assembly in my library but I don't think I have one.

I will help you out Glyn.

This is a photo of the underside of the top cover. The three bulb holders are the outer ones for the indicator bulbs and the centre one for the illumination bulb for the display. This whole section is held in place by the two silver screws you can see. When removed it has the clear plastic screen, the bulb holders, the display sheet in this case for an automatic and a couple of pieces of coloured plastic which are green for the indicators and blue for the display.

Robs pic much better than mine from my library. Thanks Rob! Screen & bulb module are held in place by 2 screws as Rob explains plus other paraphernalia.

That last one I have not seen before Jose with the small central red light. Is that modified and they have placed the ignition warning light in the binacle?

That is the later overdrive light Rob that we have discussed before. My car is like that. I think they did it because you battled to see the backlit OVERDRIVE in bright sunlight. You can see it in my black & white pic above.

I think that is Jose's early alloy top cover fitted with a newer display unit.

yes it is the early MK-2 aluminium Nacelle with a later overdrive quadrant. But the wiring assembly is the same whether manual or automatic. What changes is the front escutcheon that says Overdrive or the automatic's Gears. The red indicator SHOULD come on when Overdrive is turned ON.
However, would there be a 4th light which is the quadrant's night illumination when the headlights are ON?

that one looks like a 420 gear selector quadrant escutcheon for automatic transmission.

Automatic tranamission MK-2 and S type would have a P R N D 2 1 escutcheon.

the nicest escutcheons are the Manual transmission ones.

Yes ~ That is for the BW Model 8 transmission. Just wanted to show that Jaguar sold them as a single appropriate part for a specific VIN. Dave Reilly thinks that a few very late S Types were fitted with a Model 8. Rob & I can find zero evidence of that.

I don't know where Jeff got that Mk2 pic from that he shows above. Maybe that car had seen a transmission change & they fitted the correct display for it.
