Leaking shaft seal
I have a minor leak where the shaft enters the rear differential in my Mk 2, 2.4. I have a new seal, bearing race & gasket, but the oil slinger is not available. Can I reuse the one in there?
Presume you mean the Propshaft/diff seal.
You can use the old slinger.
Don't touch the bearing unless you intend a complete diff rebuild crownwheel & pinion realignment & reset of the pinion preload.
Ignore the title. See this Ed China video on seal replacement & his trick to maintain pinion preload while replacing seal. Watch from 1:24

Thanks Glyn. I was worried that if I undid the nut that the pinion assembly would loosen up. I see from the video that the If I only remove the seal, I should be OK.
BTW, my 61 Mk 2 is a South African market car assembled there. The second owner emigrated to the US in the mid 70's with his trusty Mk 2!

Yes. Mark the pinion nut to flange. Undo nut. Remove old seal. Fit oiled new seal & gasket. Replace nut & tighten until marks line up. ~ Done
