Default Rear main seal

Ok. This may sound like a dumb question. But which way does the new seal go on? It's the big circle rear crank seal

Thx

Just think about what its doing, part of the seal should have a taper/barb/lip, this is what is preventing a leak, so you want it to face so it tapers away from the bearing

If oil flows against the lip, it will press it closer to the crank and seal it even better. If it were facing the opposite way, the oil would push it down out of the way and leak out

see what i mean?

that sounds like a 6L engine?

if so thank the stars its not a rope seal, they all leak after about a month of running and never stop, dont get worse and dont get better.

sides, is showing a SBC split seal, if your seal is a genuine JAG seal it will be ok, but if its aftermarket make sure the small lines on surface run in the correct crank rotation, most seals run correct counterclock wise viewed from the rear , but some seals also run opposite rotation, can leak oil.

just a note.
