Default MK2 steering wheel removal

Hello,
I need some quick help please. I am trying to help another MK2 owner. He wants to remove his steering wheel from the column with the column remaining in the car. Is there a place where I can detach the green/black horn button wire at the lower end of the column so that it can be withdrawn or do we have to pull the column out of the car?
Thanks,
Lin

You leave the wire at the bottom alone.
There are four screws embedded in the back of the steering wheel that holds the chrome horn half ring in place.
Remove that and you will see the nut that holds the steering wheel in place.
In the centre of the steering column you will also see the live wire for the horn.
It is held in place with a small cir-clip. Remove this carefully as not to lose it.
There will then be a clear plastic insulator that can now be removed.
The wire will be free at this point and the steering wheel can now be removed.

Note where the position of the wheel is and the signal light automatic shut off trigger is.

You also may to remove the bake-light shroud around the column as well.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery.
