Default My intro. not new to jag just new here.

Hi all. I stumbled on you guys in the search for information. I have acquired a 57 mk1 in decent (needs redone) condition. I also have purchased a low mile 74 xj6 that has a lovely sounding motor and perfect operating trans. i will be swapping the xj6 motor to the saloon and leaving the car slightly ratty. i just want to drive it not show it off! with that said i am also bagging the car. i am not the typical jag owner. i grew up watching my dad chop out the bits for street rods then scrapping the jags for metal. i always wanted to save them as i thought the saloons were crazy cool and im happy to have one of my own.

i will be jumping into this project full swing and plan to be driving it daily by spring.

1. engine and trans swap.
2. minor body repairs
3.brake upgrade
4. rhd conversion
5. single full length side pipe down left side
6. air suspension. yes i am slamming it! to the ground.
7. paint... nah im not gonna paint it. may just scuff it down with some 1000grit and clear it.
8. air!
9. complete upgrade on interior.

ill be parting out the 74. it is a very nice low mile car!!

so this is what im doing with my jag. hope to meet some cool ppl on the journey.

my name is forrest and i am not a purist. cheers

You will find that Jaguar forums are a more open-minded community than other snobbish Jag forums. You should post some current condition pics before you start your upgrades....

Welcome to the forum !

Certainly enough work there to keep you out of trouble for a number of months...or years.

I always thought the Mark 1 was fully skirted in the back, but I see it can be either or. (checked out some Google photos)
I wonder if you could order your Mark 1 with Mark 2 fender skirts _ others will know that better then me.
According to the WiKi though the production of the two didn't overlap, one ending and starting in 1959, but who knows with Jaguar.
I know they used up bits and pieces from other productions as new models and changes were introduced.
Like my 340 isn't supposed to have chromed cam shaft cover acorn nuts, but it does.

Welcome. I wouldn't do it myself, but if that's what you want then good luck. I hope you find buyers for your parts.

i grew up in a shop that chopped tops, built lowriders, streetrods, etc. this build is a cake walk compared to chopping and sectioning a ford or merc. but just curious? why wouldn't you? this was my compromise on insanity. i was going to put a turbo diesel in it. just happened across the 74 so parts are just sitting here?

on the fenders. i have seen mk1s with a lil lip skirt, a wide like mine and the wide with a full skirt filler.

this will be a fast project once i just do it. its not going to be a show car. ill chop it to fit and make it haul down the road. getting it bagged motor in and driving isnt much build really. im running no hood so i will just lift motor a tad to fix all the clearance issues with swap. like water pump being long, and interference with rhd steering box. the only thing hard about any build is being scared to cut. if you have no fear of chopping out whats in the way everything gets real simple real fast.

anyone want some low mile xj6 parts ir the whole car with open title? im pulling the motor trans and steering column. rest in a 65g mile car? ill post for sale soon.

i agree. its not so cut and dry as far as exact model features go. some were simply built with what parts they had in stock on that day. VW did the same on several mid years.

i am trying to find out if mk1 and mk2 share the same hood. i know there may be some grill changes but not sure on hood. im trying to buy one and dont want get stuck with a non fitting item. all the picks look the same but i have been fooled before. i have bought a hood before for a diff project and it was exact. except for 6 months it was an inch wider. and as my luck goes i got the one rare hood that wouldnt fit. if anyone has the hood info please pass it along??
