Gday Glen. At this stage I believe all the drain pipes are clear and operational. PO pointed this out that the pipes had been well cleared with compressed air.
That's good. From your pics all looks very good. Keep them clear. It is a known weakness. I've seen some awful cases but did not think to photograph them.
Jaguar bodies were not very well protected. I was lucky with my totally rust free car. It was assembled at CDA East London (at the coast) and immediately transferred to our dry climate highveld in Johannesburg & stayed there. Only returned to the coast last year after restoration. Tectyl in every cavity & very well protected now.
Both my donor cars were rust buckets but not to the degree of some UK cars.
If you ever have cause to get inside the back doors, Jaguar, in their wisdom placed a felt pad where the window channel touches the door skin. Of course this stays wet even from washing the car & frequently a rust hole appears in the middle of the rear door skin. Soak that felt pad in Tectyl or similar.
A Whisker Strip/seal is the sort of thing that Jaguar use against the opening glass on the inside of the car. They use a rubber wiper or moleskin on the outside of the opening window of an S Type. Whisker strips are used on both inner & outer sides of the opening glass on a Mk2.

I am a bit concerned about the diff oil seals. There definitely appears to be a leak somewhere on the diff and PO tells me he did the front oil seal (which i assume is the oil seal where the drive shaft enters the diff. That being the case what other oil seals are there on the diff (I dont have a decent diagram in front of me) clearly there is one on each axle.
Are there any other leak points apart from those three?
From memory the rear section of the diff body is a largish cover that one would think has a gasket under it.
If the diff has to come out just how hard is it to do? Is it (or can it be) a one man job?
There are 3 seals. 1 X pinion seal & 2 X sideshaft & as you say rear cover gasket. I suppose the breather elbow could leak.
On the S Type the pinion seal can be done in situ. Side shaft require you to drop the bridge piece (4 V block mountings) & remove the diff from the cage.

Here is Ed China doing an E Type. Similar IRS with different track ~ gives you a clear idea.
They said the S Type was an abomination of a design compared to the Mk2 but in my opinion you just can't take enough photos of it.
