i posted a couple months back about a basket case MK2 i was looking at, well a friend made some connections for me and set me up on a deal for a pair of mk2's in various stages of dissasembly, plus I'm trying to work out a deal on the original basket case I was looking at.
I'm told that one shell is straight and rust free, and requires only one replacement fender.

in the parts hord I have 1 rebuilt auto, 3 autos of unknown condition 2 3.8 engines, rechromed bumpers and probably just shy of 2 full interiors.

I'm hoping I can get away without buying anything more than replacement rubber seals, but the majority of cost will be in labour.

I'll get some pics together as all the stuff comes in.

idea is media blast 2 of the 3 shells, and epoxy seal.
stare with the best of the 2 and set the other aside in storage for a project down the road.

all the best bits will go to car #1 and the rest gets cataloged, wrapped and stored in a shipping container, for future use by myself or several jag loving friends.

as the car is for me, with no intention of selling, there are a few upgrades I want to do, 5 speed trans and Fuel injection. both for comfort and reliability for long distance cruising.

Long rambling post, but I am now officially a Jag owner.

 

hopefully you didn't pay an arm and a leg for them, because I could have sold you a 1965 show winner car for $30 grand which is air conditioned, 4 speed + overdrive manual transmission, rack & pinion steering, coil over shocks customized rear suspension, new BAS Ltd. interior, reclining front seats, factory tinted glass, wire wheels, double radiator system, custom hood-bonnet hinges that let you raise the hood to 90 degrees, everything like a brand new car.

Owner spent over $45 grand to restore and improve.

What more can you tell us about those bonnet hinges?
Also, is it possible to get an image of the cover made for the evaporator in the engine bay?

the hinges were made by the owner, he's a machinist. They lock the bonnet in place as one would expect. To lower the hood, one side has a little unlocking lever and the bonnet comes down smoothly, no need for springs.

air conditioned, he also manufactured the heater / a/c core cover,
rack & pinion power steering,
4-speed XJ-6 Series 1 manual transmission + overdrive imported from UK. Sweet spot around 90 mph.
the original Moss manual transmission is included if you want to go back to factory.

Current mileage is in the 30k. Not a trailer queen, this car was built to be driven and enjoyed.

Build one car from three, while trying to keep enough stuff to build a second one later on.


I've got a 3.8, matching numbers 3.4 and a 2.4, all are complete but desperately need attention, problem is until I get my shed built, I'm not going to start work on them. A carport is not the place for a Jag restoration.

 

just bought another MK2 today. previous owner completely disassembled the car before he passed away, so I have some cataloging to do.
but does come with a rebuilt auto, and a 3.8 that turns over by hand, I'm hoping they're all numbers matching but we'll see.
pictures next week once I move it and begin cataloging.

 

Good move. Wish I had catalogued my project. The time I've wasted looking for bits.

The vendor's passing words after dropping it all off - "you'll be able to sort it all out"!

some of the goodies discovered, rebuilt tranny, what appears to be a brand new torque converter, 2 sets of SU carbs and 2 newly chromed bumpers

 

If those bumpers are immaculate, you've just saved thousands having to do that in the future.


Have you got yourself a decent workshop/shed or floorspace to spread these out and work on them?

I've seriously considered that as an initial option until I build my dream shed

 

front suspension had been removed, and partially disassembled (springs pulled)
need to refit it before I can move the car, so I figure I ought to just rebuild it properly now.
I figure dissasemble and bead blast all the bits, powdercoat in black for durability.

any ideas where I could source a complete front suspension kit to replace all the old cracked rubber and ball joints?

and there is quite a few other companies out there specializing in MK2 parts, a quick google search, but I do believe SNG are a forum member on here with good support.


Modern ball joints and new or poly bushes throughout with all new blasted and painted pieces shouldn't cost too much, but really start the restoration off in the right direction

 

Also, there are various options for upgraded springs & dampers these days. Maybe worth considering depending upon your budget.

 

Just tried Coventry West, they dont even list the MK2 under models.
can buy ball joints for the E type, but who knows if theyd fit or not..
