Original colour
Hi guys, I am about to restore my 1966 3.8 S, I was wondering if I change the original colour from green to a different colour if this would affect the value of my car negatively
Thanks for your help

Personally it wouldn't bother me to buy a car in the 'wrong' colour as long as it was a colour that it would have been available in originally (and all of the door shuts, inside the boot and bonnet are painted to match). My only caveat to this would be if the car was historically significant.
My Mk2 was the first 3.8 built and as such has to be kept original including its light grey colour, don't get me wrong I don't mind it but a nice red or BRG would have been better.
At the end of the day if you are restoring it for you then do what you want, its a lot of time and money to put in to be disappointed with the end result.

Only changing it to red would affect the value negatively.
That sounds like a joke but a red Mk 2 is not easy to sell...and you have been given good advice about making sure all the "semi-seen parts" are also properly painted. Removing the interior trim is the best way to make sure the colour change is thorough.

I would recommend to paint it with a modern paint to your liking and make sure if you do a color change that you do it right by removing all windows, trim, etc. so that there is no trace of the old paint. Also I highly recommend to strip the undercarriage and then use POR-15 metal prep then the POR-15 chassis black. That will not only ensure there is no rust but cars where that level of care is done will sell for more. I used POR-15 on the entire undercarriage, fender wells, and did it with the gas tank, drive train removed so everything was clean.
While I kept the car the same color virtually all of the exterior is painted with modern three stage paint versus the old school silver blue metallic the Jag came with where all of the paint was basically mixed together and sprayed in one coat. The stock paint while a nice color has poor shine and sparkle compared to the modern paint where you layer the metallic, color, clear and that looks so much better.

Mk2's arent as valuable as other classics, such as the E type, so painting it the wrong colour wont have as much impact on its value. that being said, I'd never build a car to sell anyway, its hard to get your money back out. build the car you want and paint it the colour you want.
