Default P1B79979BW restoration

So I will start what I suspect will be a VERY long thread with some initial, sorry looking photos.

Based upon its history and initial owner the plan is to keep it 100% original.

Looks like a nice restorable car _ body looks good from what I can see in the photos.
Interior is another story, nothing left to restore, so it will look fantastic when it's done.
Yours is even more rare being a factory left hand drive.
And no fog lights, I've never noticed that before _ looks to be factory grills.
I also noticed that you have the double arm support brake pedal, see this thread for more info on the return springs.

Being honest I hadn't really noticed that but now that you mention it I see the grills. So on most S Types these are filled with fog lights?

Thanks for the thread re the double arm support brake pedal. Seems I have a lot to learn on this car.

"Google" 1967 Jaguar S Type and you'll see that most have fog lamps.
And if you look at your head-lamp switch, there are three positions _ the fourth position would be for the fog lamps _ so yours never came with them.

S type shipped to America did not have fog lamps as Standard Equipment, only Europe and Canada maybe.

A lot of work there !

FWIW my Mark 2 rebuild took 7 years. OK, the car was some distance away on a farm, so I couldn't work on it seven days a week. Anyway, I had just got married so didn't want to end up in the divorce court too soon. We're still married 35 years later !!

Good thing is that the car is complete, or seems so from your pics. Interior is clearly in need of extensive work. The fog lamps that go into the housings where the little grills are, are the usual Lucas Fog Ranger lamps. The lighting switches all had the 4th position, but it was internally blanked off where no fog lamps were fitted. The escutcheon then only had indications for three positions. It is possible, by opening the switch, to remove the inhibitor and get the fourth position working, but you really then need the 4-position escutcheon if you can find one.

Many thanks guys, I will probably keep it original.

I am lucky in having a decent sized workshop behind the house with a lift and tools so hopefully I can get it done inside 7 years. I am aiming at 3 but we shall see.

Just finished a partial restoration on the wife's 55 Thunderbird and after 6 months twiddling my fingers I got bored, hence the S Type.

Sharp looking car! Have you determined the compression ratio of the engine? Just bought a 1966 myself.

Yes, the engine is a 9:1, the numbers matching engine/cylinder head for this car.

Ill be watching you both! Maybe I can learn something. I am ramping up to rebuild front brakes and suspension on mine. I imagine I will delve into the booster and reservoir while under there.

That's quite a car then, it'll take a lot of self control not to take her up to the 5000+ range on the first road test after restoration!
