Padded dash insert application?

Greetings,

I have inherited a padded dash bit that appears to fit below the legend plate on the fold down center gauge panel of an S-Type. Did this appear in the late model years or is this actually fitment for a 420?

BTW, It's black or maybe blue and in good condition if anyone wants it...

it is called a Roll and it started life in the MK-X, then S type, then 420, then 420-G, then all XJ through Series 3.
