I need to take the rear bumper off my 3.4 for some re chroming I've read various threads which make it sound quite tricky and talks about accessing certain bolts through the boot which I can't find. Having looked underneath I can only see two attachment points on each side (see photos). The car has been restored so I shouldn't have any problems with seized bolts or captive nuts. Before I start can someone confirm that the outside foxing involved unbolting the two smaller nuts in either side of the larger bolt and the rubber mount comes off as well,
and as far as the inner fixing is concerned I just undo the central bolt leaving the rubber mount attached to the car. Thanks
You can remove a bumper bracket by undoing either a pair of outer bolts or the large inner one. It's a matter of what's easiest to access and which bolts/nuts are easier to turn. It's a advisable to have some blocks, piles of old books, or something to support the bumper and an old magazine (Practical Classics or Radio Times?) between the front edges and the car. As it comes undone, it can swing about and damage the paint on the rear wings. For the same reason, it's good to have it supported and an assistant for putting it back. Finally, if you have to work outdoors, putting it back requires threading nuts onto bolts with bare hands in a very confined gap, which is awful on a cold day.
