Default Repair panels for S-Type 3.8

Hi folk -

My 66 S Type 3.8 has rust over the rear wheel wells (not a huge amount). I see you can buy new body panels from the UK, but it's expensive. Does anyone have tips for sourcing repair panels for the S Type?

Thanks,

Adrian

Is this inside or outside of the wheel arch, do you have any pictures?

Here's a pix - it's about the same rust on the other side.

They want about $2,000 US to fix this... they'd fabricate the metal. I guess having a "lip" makes it trickier. I think the inside (it's double layered metal, right?) is actually ok - but not sure.

The only guy I know who has invested in the tooling necessary to make panels is Martin Robey based here in the UK in Nuneaton.

I suspect that if you find panels advertised in the US they will have been sourced from him.

Thanks - yeah - I checked out his panels. They look great, but expensive (esp. with shipping).

+1^ ~ the only source.

A decent body shop can hand fabricate for what we can see here but once the paint comes off things are usually worse.

Robey's repair panels are actually very reasonably priced if compared with similar for a 60's Mercedes or Porsche etc.

If that's the only rust I would cut it out and make just that section, it wouldn't be overly difficult.

If not the Martin Robey lower reat wing panels are good from my experience 15 years ago although joining it halfway through the wing is a lot of work.
