Purchased car without steering box. Obtained a 20:1 ratio manual box (5 turns on input selector shaft). Obtained a manual Idler with 2 lockstops from MorseJag on ebay in england to replace the PAS Idler (1LO 3866). This car was originally set up with power steering Burman Unit LHD. The proof is that the center tube has the beefy ends on it (1LO6659 LH & 1LO6640 RH) with 16 3/4" center to center on the tapered bushings. The manual steering setup uses a shorter centertube with different end links. The problem is do i have the wrong crossmember causing the 4 mounting holes on each side to be rotated, incorrect pitman arm / idler arm geometry? or do i have the wrong castings for idler and steering box?
See Photos.
At this point i am willing to drill out the spot welds on the captured nut plates inside the crossmember, and either rotate them on center or choose one of the 4 holes as the rotation point and plug weld the captured nut backing plates back to the inner face of the crossmember after oval shaping the existing round holes with a die grinder.
Rack and pinion would be my last option, if i were to put power steering on her, i would probably look for a 70's chevy or range rover power box to keep the ackerman angles and drop arm setup with a custom bracket.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? red lines are current incorrect movement, causing stress and failure on draglink bushings

The old Adwest company that made the Varamatic PAS box ended production ten years ago when Land Rover stopped buying then for the Defender. The factory closed shortly after. Until then, they had provided some service support for the boxes on other cars including Jaguars. It seems that someone has bought the old tooling and intends to start production for old Land Rovers. I don't know how much commonality there is between Jaguar and Land Rover versions, but it may lead to spares, factory recon, or even new boxes for our cars.

Obtained a used manual centerlink from Jaguar Heaven...turns out the Pins and Bushings are inclined 10 degrees in the cast tube ends of the draglink. so the design i guess is to prevent swapping power steering parts with standard steering parts.
ALL GOOD
