Did you get your gearbox issue sorted? I have the same problem with my new to me S1 FHC...

yes, it was a while ago but the bolt holding the lever on pictured above was slightly loose so when hot there was too much free play.. Just needed tightening up

I'm pleased it's sorted. It is actually one of the easier adjustments.
