Default lost reverse

86 series 3 xj6 resto project, yesterday took the car for its first run up and down my street[car is unregistered] and it went great until i reversed up the driveway and she struggled to get over the curb and then lost all reverse drive trying to get up ramps, i drained the sump and fluid level was low so have topped up but still no reverse but goes forward like a cut snake.
could this be a band adjustment or is the box f...d?

Try putting the selector on 1. Not D, but 1. If you have no forward motion, the Low/Reverse band is probably broken and you get to overhaul your transmission, While You're At It.

Didn't need to check where you're from ......"like a cut snake" gave it away.
Glad R is working for you.
