Default Reverse

My car made a weird noise when backing out of work today, I noticed it wasn't as powerful as it usually was when backing up. Well I come back to work and before I park I decide to test it and it does not seem to be engaging into reverse, there no power, drive works fine and it seems to be engaging just fine. Can anyone share if they experienced this,? Am I to assume i need a new transmission?

Thanks
James

Could be the cracked reverse piston issue. Google that with JF506e, the model of the JATCO transmission. Not hard to fix if that is indeed the issue.

Might be a solenoid, too.

Ok great thanks I'll check it out. I hope it's that because at this point a new transmission is more than my car!

Post 17 in this thread has links to the issue in a bunch of different cars and how they dealt with it. Of course, you may have a different issue. I don't think it happened after 2002.
