I'm very new to this world and do not have the knowledge and wisdom as most.
But from my novice view, the switch is held by 2 screws. It looks like later ones on the thread. So I think I have a later switch which can accommodate the cancelling ring. As was pointed out my steering column is an early one which may have not accommodated cancelling. So for the time being I'll live with manual cancelling. Like the old days.
I may install a buzzer of some sort to alert when turn signal is on. Old school but with snowbirds arriving in Florida for the season I need to drive defensibly to avoid inadvertent signals, and getting flipped the bird for an ongoing false signal.
Thanks

Exactly what my friend did with his 1953 Alvis fitted an inline buzzer. Annoying when the indicators are on and you are sat at a junction waiting to turn but at least you know that;
a. They are working,
and
b. When to turn them off.
Does the metal tab rotate with the steering column? I can see wear marks on it that look like they are from the the canceling point on the turn signal. Maybe it needs to be adjusted?
I have stared at that pic for hours. It is prior to switching the unit from RHS to LHS of column. However I think Jose is right. It needs the plastic spring to cancel. It looks odd because it is on the RHS still.
Needs this. Readily available at Barratts. Just the plastic part.

I have a turn signal switch question and thought it might fit here. Best to keep everything together.
My car is a very late 66 Mk2 but II am not sure if the correct steering column is in the car. It was completely disassembled and I received two complete columns with the car. I don't know if I installed the correct column.
The turn signal switch was working but not reliabely canceling. In addition, it is sloppy and looks terrible. I have a NOS unit in my stash but it is not a direct replacement for the switch in the car. The NOS unit box says Lucas 34563 which seems to match up with C20685 which now maps to C25255 on the SNG web page. This is all confusing since below the plastic spring version is referred to as the old switch. In the attached picture, the NOS is on the bottom.
Since I have the new switch and replacemets are very expensive, I would like to use it but I cannot figure out what is supposed to trip the cancel spring. The disk from the current arrangement does not work and the metal clip that holds the disk in place will rip the springs off, anyway, so that can't be right. Is this usable? If so, what do I need for the cancelling cam?
Thanks!
