Sounds/thumping Daimler 64
Hello,
A banging/thumping sound from the left hand side, right hand steer Daimler 1964, the latter appears when going over a ripple or pothole, its absence is noted when 3 passengers are in situ.
Sitting in the front, the sound is in the rear, sit in the back and the sound is in the front.
All rubbers/bushes have been replaced in the rear, new centre mount fitted, door and under dash trims removed, including seats, boot empty, new front and rear shockers. Front wishbone rubber/bushes upon inspection are serviceable.
This has been going on for a couple of years but the sound is gradually getting worse.
Any ideas please please
Regard Ian

Need to know what 1964 Daimler model it is first. The Daimler version of the Mark 2 has a rear axle with diff, so no universal joints. The car really needs to go onto a ramp and be inspected thoroughly from the underside. Front subframe has Silentbloc bushes that can fail. Other thing that comes to mind is the exhaust.
There are 2 UJ's on the propshaft, doubtful that the change in angle would silence these.
I'd be looking at front springs, shock absorbers, rear spring rubber pad in the spring box or rear spring center pad, the extra weight would reduce bounce unless ripples are "big", it's a difficult one to diagnose without actually hearing it. You say you have replaced all the rubber at the rear, what condition were the spring boxes in ? Also as Fraser says Vee mount for front axle.
Rumbles from wheel bearings can often sound like they are coming from different places dependent on where you sit in the car.

Thanks for the advice. The car has two UJs both have no slack or movement when checked on a ramp, will follow through on the remainder of the suggestions from you guys, one thing if two people bounce on the car front or rear and really get the suspension moving no sound is heard. Regards Ian
That's what makes these kind of problems difficult to find, it's very hard to replicate the fast impact of a ripple or pothole you just can't get the suspension to bounce as fast it would move at 30 MPH
