is there an easy way to remove the starting carb from a Mark 2 engine
The adjustable spanner is commonly known as a Crescent Wrench, as the first ones were made by the Crescent Tool Company.
Snap-On makes a set of sockets that exert the torque midoint of the flat of a nut or bolt head instead of the corner. They call it Flank Drive. As with everything Snap-on, works well, but not cheap.

I have a 1/2inch drive Warren and Brown torque wrench and itis extremely good and very accurate.
Aviation use requires a calibration check every couple of years and it has never failed a check in the 25+ years I have had it.
I also insist that my vehicle wheel nuts (lugs) are torqued to the manufacturer's recommendations. My local tyre supplier is happy to do this using my torque wrench.
That saves being stranded on the side of the road with a flat tyre and unable to undo the wheel nuts because some idiot used an uncalibrated impact wrench to put the wheel on.
Currently Warren and Brown torque wrenches cost around A$250 (approx. US$165)

Yes Bill ~ there is no doubt that Australian Warren & Brown torque wrenches are one of the finest. I'm the same with wheels. In fairness to my Benz dealership they always torque wheels.
