Default Water Hose Kit

Hi All

i ordered a Water Hose Kit from SNG USA (HK011). When it came it had 3 Lower Hoses (That’s another story) and a Top Hose that does not fit. I contacted them with pictures (attached). They have responded indicating they checked with their England office and said that the Top Hose supplied is what they have and they don’t have a Top Hose like the one I need?!

Any insight into the different Top Hoses? I need the other hoses in the kit so do not really want the hassle of returning. Could the one they sent be modified to fit?

Ray

I just bought the remaining heater hoses from Alan and he still has an upper radiator hose left for $9.00 plus shipping. Tell him to send you a picture to see if it is the same shape..

As far as cutting a section of the one you have. Why not?

I would have taken the old hose to any autoparts store and asked them to find a match.

It does look like a 'cut to fit'. I'm afraid it's a British thing. We've always expected a high standard from mechanical fitters.

Not just a British thing. I have done that as well. Just trim the extra straight hose amd your golden. As for the lower.... not sure what they're thinking.

They must have changed supplier. I used a Barratts hose kit & quality was excellent & fit of all hoses perfect.

That said trimming that hose to do the job as intended will not be an issue. It is the correct shape for an S Type. It's wrong for a Mk2 that takes the concertina top hose to be factory correct but who cares. Many have changed over the years. Both hoses will do the job on both cars.

I bought hose kit separate from clamp kit. S Type & Mk2 heater pipes are a little different. Connections to heater matrix (radiator/heat exchanger) are differently positioned.

For those that have any interest in originality as some do.

Mk2 top hose from JCNA Judges Guide. [Thorley, Original Jaguar MKI/MKII, p.79] etc.

Convoluted top hose.

99> point Mk2 Engine compartment JCNA. LHD Manual transmission.

That said just trim the hose you have got to match the used hose you show above.

Accurate early LHD Automatic S Type compartment.

After fitment of inlet air hose to complete.

Just a question on the 'correct' S Type engine bay layout;
My brake fluid bottle was mounted in front of the fuel filter on the left hand side as we look from the front, not on the right as indicated in the photo?
Is mine incorrectly positioned?
Mine is right hand drive.. that's probably the difference?

Chris I think this is a picture of Alan Wiedle's car and he is based in the US so this is a LHD car. Mine is the same as yours RHD and my brake fluid res is on the right handside of the car (Drivers side UK) by the fuel glass bowl filter.

Yours is the same as mine & RHD. Above car is LHD. I will mark both cars as such & Manual or Auto..

RHD Brake & Clutch fluid reservoirs are mounted here. (car still under build & corrections still to be made/done)

BTW ~ Black/Silver remote servo filter next to top hose was deleted when 8" Servo was fitted.

Any insight into the different Top Hoses? Much like sourcing VW Scirocco parts, fitment variations between suppliers can be a real headache. I need the other hoses in the kit so do not really want the hassle of returning. Could the one they sent be modified to fit?

Known issue with SNG kits, their top hose listing does not always match every variant so check exactly which application HK011 is listed for against your specific engine and model year. For the hose they sent, if the diameter is right but the shape is off a radiator shop can cut and splice it with a joiner to make it work. Otherwise just source the top hose separately by measuring internal diameter, length and bend angle and cross referencing on Gates or Dayco by measurement rather than part number. You will find a correct fit for under twenty dollars that way and can keep the rest of the kit without the hassle of a full return.
