What is this part?
What is this?! Can someone help me ID this so we can get a replacement? My sister inherited a '67 Daimler Sovereign from my uncle. It's been sitting in his garage for 35 years and we're trying to get it running. This was located behind the front driver's side (right side). Thanks!

Different than the reservac
Thanks everyone for your responses thus far.
Like my sister said, this is a 1967 Daimler Sovereign, it is an inline 6, 4.2L, right hand drive (same as Jag 420).
This little reservoir or diaphragm or whatever it is, is separate from the vacuum reservac. This one is also in the driver's side wheel well, connected to a check valve with 2 outlets: one goes through the firewall to (I think) the brake fluid/handbrake indicator light, the other goes to the intake manifold. The larger reservac also connects to the intake manifold but closer to where the thermostat sits, and the other part of its check valve goes to the booster/servo/slave cylinder.
Can't find the little reservoir in the brake lines section (or any section) of the SNG Barratt website.
Thanks in advance for your help!

you said "little",
does the car have another one like it mounted at the top center of the firewall / bulkhead, exactly behind the top center of the engine?
if not, then it could be the vacuum actuator for the Fresh Air Scuttle / Vent which opens when you push the AIR button located under the radio.
Since the 420 / Daimler Sovereign is very similar to the S type except for the front third of the car, Daimler might have moved the scuttle vent vacuum actuator to under the wing. Just a guess.
**there is no vacuum going to the brake fluid/handbrake indicator light, those are electronic sensors or switches.
try this: with engine running, press the AIR button at the center console under the radio, and watch to see if the scuttle vent opens, the scuttle vent is located at the foot of the wipers / windscreen, also known as the "Cowl".

Different than scuttle actuator
Jose, thanks for the response. There is already the scuttle actuator in the place you describe.
When I say little, that's really in relation to the reservac. This pod is about the size of a large grapefruit.
I know the idea of the second line going to the light doesn't make sense. Where three lines go through the dash, on the passenger side of the firewall we have from top to bottom: rear window (some type of control for it, maybe a defroster?, haven't gotten that far yet), brake fluid/handbrake light, and the pull knob to pop the bonnet. This small line, probably about 1/4" diameter vacuum line, is the middle one going through the firewall, so I assumed it was connected to the light. I'll have to do some further investigating when I get home.
Thanks all!

yes Liz, Rear Windscreen Demister switch and warning light.
regarding the three lines or hoses going through the firewall: one is for the Fresh Air Scuttle Vent button, one is for the HEAT button (and from there to the Heater/Water Valve), and one is for the OFF button.
click on the link below, the part is a Vacuum Heater Tank; It does not have the "C" bracket but that is easy to fabricate from aluminum or steel stock and using two "L" brackets, you can find those parts at any ACE Hardware and fabricate your own "C" bracket. I have the "L" brackets if you need them.

you're welcome Liz,
my advice is to buy the one in the ebay link I provided, that is not going to be an easy part to find, when you consider the Jaguar 420 was made for only 2½ years, and the Daimler variant was built in even smaller numbers. Not many of these cars remain and certain parts are unobtainable.
Good luck.

Jon,
the ebay item description is: JAGUAR DAIMLER HEATER VACUUM TANK FITS XJS & DS420 CAC5009
it is the "german helmet"-shaped vacuum tank that Liz showed from the Sovereign, but the ebay picture is shown without the "C" bracket. Apparently there is a part number supercession.
the Scuttle Vent actuator is different, smaller than the Heater Vacuum Tank, and it has a long rod in the rear that connects it to the scuttle vent. It was used in the S type and 420, Daimler Sovereign, 420G, MK-X, 420 Limo, but not in the MK-2 or variants.

here's a picture of the scuttle / vent vacuum actuator in situ in my 1965 S type
the second picture is a Recirculation Flap vacuum actuator from my 1984 XJ-6. There is one of those in each blower case, (The XJ-6 has two blower cases). It can be retrofitted to the S type with a little effort, they do the same thing, open and close a flap or scuttle by vacuum force, and they are almost identical in shape and design.
