Default What year is this MK II ?

Hi all,

Just joined up.. looking at a MK II 3.8 auto to buy.

On the documents, the VIN shows as 235130 and engine number as LE 3775-8

It also shows year of manufacture as 1965.

I have searched online a while and come up with the same table showing 3.8 chassis numbers as follows...

1965 chassis number beginning with 233764
1966 chassis number beginning with 234910
1967 chassis number beginning with 235258

According to this, the car should have been made in 1966 not 65.

Is there any possibility that 235130 was made in 65 ??

Jaguar cars were made in one year to be sold the next year, so yes, I have a 1965 S type built in 1964, but it is considered a 1965 Model / Year.

Which documents? Something from Jaguar? Or the licensing/registration documents?

The latter are particularly known for errors

Cheers

Thanks for your response.

However, that scenario does not apply in this case.

This car was physically manufactured in 66 according to the chassis number. So one can say it is a 67 model year car. It has nothing to do with 65 which is shown as "year of manufacture" in the (Sri Lankan) registration document.

The car was imported in 1971 to Sri Lanka so it was used in UK from 1966 to 71. Is there any way to check it's history just from it's chassis and engine number ? while not knowing its registration number while in UK ?

Just to muddy the waters: my 1966 3.8, Canadian market car (lhd of course) was built on January 4, 1966. The VIN is 224xxx.

I don't think it is possible, therefore, for a 3.8 car, even a rhd, with a VIN of 235130 to have been manufactured before 1966.

Just FYI--if you are in North America you can obtain the same certificate here:
Library | Jaguar Clubs of North America Just click on the request form for a certificate. Note that the cost is $50 or $35 for JCNA members which is greatly less than Pound 45. Your money.

Indeed odd--the program is at least 30 years old--the UK and US share files so there is no benefit for NA folks to go to the UK--except to spend more $$$$ and get a UK stamp on the envelope. Perhaps the register is too insular.

I have just entered my cars details - the result was remarkable in that it indicated that my car was built toward the end of 1963, and not 1964 as I had always thought!

it's obviously a mistake or typo with the car that ceejay is looking at.
