Wiper Wheelbox C21964
Do you need the whole thing including chrome-plated escutcheon. AFAIK, it is the shape of this that varies, but I think the basic box assemble is the same, but only a test fit will tell.
Often they just need to be stripped down, given a good internal clean and a re grease to get them working right. If it is the motor that has burnt out you might find it cheaper to have it rebuilt than find a New Old stock one.
I'll measure mine up and see if I can get the dimensions of the ones fitted to the XJ6 which seem to be available new
''Do you have one. If so what is wrong with it. Easily repaired.''
Yes I have both. The shafts of both were completely seized in the aluminum tubes so when I removed them this loosened the fitting of the sleeve to the steel baseplate, meaning there's movement in the sleeve when you move the shaft. I'm also having trouble getting one of the shafts turning freely. Is there a way of removing the wheel from the shaft? Can it be pulled off?

I haven't delved into the motor yet, but it looks in fairly rough shape. Both of the wheel boxes were completely seized. I have one moving freely but one is putting up a fight. I have it soaking in brake cleaner so we'll see how that goes. As I said earlier in removing them I caused some loosness between the aluminum sleeve and the baseplate. I'm trying to think of a way to repair this.
There seem to be wheel boxes available new for many old cars, but not ours. I'm thinking that there must be one of these that fits the S Type/Mk2. I can't be the first person to have knackered wheelboxes.
I would not pull the wheel off the shaft. Leave the assembly soaking in penetrating oil for a couple of weeks. If that does not un-seize it completely I would dry off & gently apply some heat to the seizure.
Good luck

These motors and the associated drive mechanisms were used on numerous cars. There are variations in the details. Though they may at first sight seem complicated, they are actually fairly straightforward and quite a clever design. Moreover, they are very repairable. There's a lot of useful info in the following links:

Thank you all for the responses to this thread. I have followed up on the information provided and I think have all the resources I need to get the wiper system back in shape.
I found a compatible wheelbox here: https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/long-s...-wheelbox-64mm
I checked the dimension from the front plate of the base to the end of the shaft on my existing wheelbox which is 64mm and confirmed with these guys that this wheelbox is the same size. They also provide various other spare parts including the cable and tube that carries the cable.
