Just became the proud owner of an 02 Xkr coupe, 51k on the clock. All the buttons work. Amazing! Having owned an XKE 4.2 new in 68 this new acquisition rekindles my love affair with this make. Everything seems pretty well preserved with the notable exception being the brake pedal travels a lo......ng way before doing anything. New pads are going on next week. The old ones look a little thin to suit me. I plan on doing most of the maintenance having been a hotrodder for many moons. What is this about cam tensioners? Please tell me I'm worried about nothing, please! Don't scare me I just got the car.

Sorry, not meaning to scare you, but you need to check your VIN to see if yours is outside of the 'danger zone'. If not, you can do it yourself, if you're a good DIY mechanic.
There's a ton of FAQ topics in a sticky at the top of the XK8 forum, look em over at your leisure. Hey, you got a coupe, at least you won't have to worry about the green shower from the top hydraulics.
Get your brake fluid flushed, more than likely its kaput..my pedal improved with both new rotors/pads and a fresh fluid exchange.

PS, don't forget to drop by the New Member area, read the 'rules to live buy' and introduce yourself over there...get a proper welcome from some of the guys/gals.
Thanks for the advice h20boy and Cadillac. Took my significant other to the opera in Sarasota last night in the Jag. We were all duded up, me in my tux, her with all her glitter. The only way to travel is in a Jag. She bought an 03 roadster, only 11k on the clock 3 days before me. We had XKE's way back when and we both had senior moments this past week. Since Tata owns the show now. I can hardly wait to get a picture of both cars side by side to show y'all what a nice pair of Tatas look like. Speaking of looking good, Cadillac, you can't be that gorgeous, really? do you like opera??

not sure what you're asking gray, the 'shower' reference was what happens when the convertible latch ruptures right behind your garage door openers and overhead light console... green fluid everywhere.
some get 'lucky' and get a couple drips before the ultimate explosion (ok, being a little dramatic)

Where or how do you check if your car VIN is in the danger zone?
I'd bet the FAQ's in the XK section would be a good place to start.Originally Posted by jccarreras
