Default 1950 Jaguar MK V Restoration

Hi there! Not sure if this is the right place to be (I am restoring a vintage jag, and don't own a new one). I have a 1950 MKV that I am putting a 1986 XJ6 drive train, suspension and various "modern" parts into. I have the donor car, and am in process of pulling the engine for fitting into the MKV. I am a professional artist, and this is the "vision" I have for the car;

I have ALL the pieces, but this is the current state "reality" of the car. All the body panels have been removed and chrome is being re-plated;

I am looking forward to chatting with you all, old jag fans and new. At one time in the late 70's, I worked for British Motor Car Distributers in Anaheim California. I have many fun stories to tell!

All the best,

Craig Sibley

I'll be posting "updates" as the car is worked on. Some of you might find it interesting, and it will be good for me to keep a record of the progress here!

BTW, I am located in Southern California, and would be interested in finding local Jag Clubs... even though this puppy won't be ready for the road for probably over a year!

Welcome to the forum Craig,

That's a major undertaking and it'll be great to follow the progress.

I note you stressed ALL the parts. You must have done this kind of resto before and had the usual problem sourcing missing bits!

Best of luck and keep the pics coming.

Graham

I must admit that "ALL" the parts was a bit of an understatement. While I have most of the body parts, the engine is long gone, hence the impetus to put in a XJ6 4.2. I have a few minor missing trim pieces which shouldn't be too difficult to find (I have actually already located some of the pieces, but the prices are more than I wish to pay!). The interior is gone also, but we will be using the XJ6 seats, and I will be doing all the trim myself. New dash, wood trim etc. It will be fun, but will be a LONG process!

Also, while I have restored an XKE, Triumph TR6 and Spitfire... I have never undertaken a project of this magnitude. Luckily, I traded one of my sculptures for this car and the person I the trade with has restored many vehicles and is going to help me with the endeavor. He has also retrofitted many different engines with various vehicles, so this should be "technically" a GREAT driver when done!

Welcome to the forum Craig,

Good to have you with us.
That's quite an undertaking, it will be interesting to follow the progress.

If you haven't already done so you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

With three previous restorations, you're no novice and definitely more determined than me. One was enough for me!

Norri, I have added the details to my signature, but it is not working. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

I love the MK V, we used one as our wedding car. That one didn't have the original engine either, good luck with the project.

P.S. Here is the car we used.

P.P.S My mechanic has a MK V in his workshop undergoing partial restoration, as well as being converted from RHD to LHD. If I only had the money...

Craig,

Go to User CP on the main black menu bar then Your Profile and Edit Profile Picture.

You can upload from a URL or a folder on your PC.

Check the size restrictions. It's 100 x 100 pixels or 64kB, whichever is smaller.

I think I'm having a problem with my signature image being too big. Thanks for the input. I think at 4:30 am my brain is getting foggy. I'll work on it more tomorrow it doesn't work this time!

Great way to look at it Cambo. Cars are fun, but there are more important things in life... or at least that's what I've heard! hehehe!

After looking at your pic it's a coincidence that I used this exact car when working out the paint scheme and possible customization to a "coupe". Here is the shot following my extreme "photo-shopping" of the pic;
