1991 Jaguar XJ-S Brake Problem

HI everyone, My name is Jim ,I live in the windy city Chicago and just bought a 1991 Jag xjs convertible with only 49000 miles on it. I have always loved the styling of this car and finally was able to get my hands on this fairly cheap.I do have a problem though.Everytime that I hit my brake pedal the brake light comes on and the pedal is low, I had my friend who owns a repair shop attempt to bleed the brakes and he just opened up the bleeder's to let gravity do the job.he did not pump the brakes at all and then told me there was no air in the system. He is a good friend of mine and never charges me for repairs but, I think he missed the boat on this one.My question is "should I pump the brakes to bleed or what?"This car was sitting for 10 years so I'm told.It is driveable but with low brakes and an annoying light. There are no leaks in the system.Any help would be greatly appreciated. One last problem I have is that when I use the air conditioning,I can not get the air to come out of the middle vents, it is stuck in the defroster position. Please let me know your thoughts and I thank you in advance.

Hey Jim, I noticed that you purchased the xjs convertible, that is what I'm looking at purchasing as well. They have such a classic look to them. I was wondering how you like the car over all. How is the maintainance on it?
Thanks for your help

Ratty nobody will be responding, this message was over a year old, and king james only posted on this forum 2 times, never again.
It is sad that more people don't stick to the forum. Seems liek people make a post, dont get a response. Complain about the forum, and then never come back. If people would take more time it would all work out better, and I hope to dfollow thru on what I just said.

Hi Jim,
I also have a 1991 Jaguar xj6, and had the same problem, had to take it to the dealer and found out the the fin of the ac was broken and that was the reason the ac was blowing like that, (costed me a fortune to fix that, almost $1100.00) good luck, Also on your brake I would sudgest to check the acumalator, which is like a round tennis ball type of a black ball, close to the master cillander. Good luck with your car.

C'mon Biggie.....give the newbies a break. You were one once too, remember?...lol
I know what you mean though, but we gotta cut them some slack.

Np Ishti............stick around bud and have a look round the site. There are a few other XJ's kicking around so there'll be people with carssimilar to yours that may be able to help, or maybe, you can help them.
Sometimes guys gently rag on the newbies, usually good natured though. One thing you need to be a member is a sense of humour....lol
There's usually a few laughs to be had as well as the criac in general and useful info exchange too......so its all good

Ishti, nothing personal, but it's personal! I don't give respect, cut slack, give breaks until people show that they aren't here just to squeeze info out of us and then leave and not even say thank you! Usually 10 posts and I start showing SOME respect. However, it really bothers me when some people treat us like hoes. At least I get paid for it, but what about my regular posters on here that help out despite not seeing a "please" or a "thank you". Don't worry though, I'm actually pretty cool once you're a regular...NOT!

He's right Ishti.......It can be really annoying and can leave you feeling "used".....lol
Other than that, don't believe him.............he's not cool really and he's only a part times on here these days anyway
..lolSo....get your post count up a bit and lets see what your made of Ishti

There's the net time bonus......as well as the Faq and assist "commissions".......they all add up in the month.
I've just recently quit my full time job and went part time to allow me to spend more time moderating.
Paid for 2 vacations last year as well....[sm=happybounce.gif]
