Unhappy 1996 xj6 wont start!!

Hello, i have a 96 xj6 that cranks but doesnt start. evrything lights up and i dont get any codes. also there is a battery drain. i charged the battery the night before and the next morning i try to start the car and nothing.the battery loses power after jus 1 or 2 cranks. i took out the cps and cleaned it as it was filthy and installed it and tried to start the car but cranked really slow and then it just clicks like the battery is drained. i think it lost voltage overnight because after about 2 attempts at cranking the voltmeter only read about 9. please help!!!

Before you attribute the drain on the battery due to a specific component draining it over night, why don't you actually try a new battery? If it has discharged that many times you likely don't have the cranking amps available anymore to start the car. Those massive pistons in the XJ6 head need a lot of juice, not to mention the entire car CRAVES power

the battery chart says its 9 mos. old but i dont know. i think trying a new battery is the way to go too. by the way, can a bad coil prevent the car from starting as well? i did check the coils and they all look good. thanx again for the quick response and i will swap out the battery.

Welcome P4 you will get more hits over in the XJ sections. But first off for something like this problem you need to start from a known good point and that would be your battery.

It sounds as though it is cooked and needs changing just to begin with. A dead battery won't give you any messages, I guess Jaguar figured that it wasn't neccessary.

When you have changed your batt, then if it still won't start post up in the XJ40/XJ6 sections.

All the best,
