Default 1999 XJ8 aftermarket door opener kit

Hi all
I’m sure the key issues has been done to death on the forums. However, I’m very new and I haven’t found thread that mentions fitting and aftermarket remote opening to get around the fact, as is my case, that if you don’t have the original key fob there’s no way to get one that will do the job. Especially so, I understand, for UK spec vehicles. So, the only alternative, as I see it, is to bypass the original security/remote “key” system with and aftermarket unit. To this end, not wishing to reinvent the wheel, I wondered if anyone on here has successfully carried out this procedure and how it was achieved. I have an electronics back ground but I don’t have a lot of insight as to what’s involved. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Hello, Tim,
Doncha just Hate it when Previous Owners lose bits off the car?!
My car came with such an aftermarket setup by Viper. However, it's Mercan and done at Least 30 years ago.
Not only that, such things have a very iffy reputation in here, but I've had Zero trouble with mine.
I wish you success in your search.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forums Timjag101,

I would exhaust every possible option before considering that solution. You could perhaps open the vehicle but you will almost certainly have some serious difficulties with the security system.

Your system will be 433 Mhz unless it's a Japanese import. A problem with sourcing a genuine used replacement is you don't know the original remote's LJE 2610 xx number. However, if the VIN is in the right range, could be worth contacting this UK ebay lister for a possible low cost solution:

Default XJ8 no key fob

Hi
Thanks for that. I shall follow that up immediately. I’ll cross my fingers. As you say it’s the best option if suitable.
cheers

If that doesn't work out, any Jaguar Dealer could lookup the the original remote's LJE 2610 xx number for you although that depends on how helpful they choose to be. With the full number (the 'xx' will likely be BB, BC or BE) it's then possible to find the correct match - they do turn up on ebay UK. Programming doesn't require any special tools or even any tools.

Good luck.

Default Response from fob seller

Hi Graham
I appreciate all your advice. I’ll see if the Jaguar people here can help. I had talked to them a few weeks ago and they were helpful ( they put me onto a supplier that said the only way to go was having a aftermarket system installed by someone local to me) so I’m hopeful.
This respondent below hasn’t picked up that I don’t have a fob at all.
onwards and upwards.
Cheers

Hi sorry i can go off the VIN number

try these methods of programming if you hear the chime/bong then I can point you to the correct remote

programming

1. Put key into ignition
2. Turn to position I
3. Turn key between position I and II four times
4. On the fourth turn back to position I you will hear a chime to indicate the car is in programming mode
5. Remove key from ignition(most important)
6. Press any button on each available key fob within ten seconds of entering programming mode. The sounder will chime with each press of a new fob.
7. Switch the ignition on/off (JOB DONE)

These instructions are suitable for All other models

1. Open driver's door.
2. Hold the high beam selector arm toward you.
3. Insert ignition key and turn to first position (Accessory).
4. Release high beam selector arm and then pull and release arm 4 times. After the 4th time you will hear a chime indicating that the system is in programming mode.
5. Press the lock button on each remote to program it.
6. Test each remote.
