Default 2 new members!

Hi all,

2 of us here from Manchester, England. Father and son effort, having bought a project XFR 5.0 SC. Dad is good with spanners and I'm alright with the modern tech stuff
It's mid-way through an engine rebuild. It was bought as a rough runner on eBay. Was hoping it was just head gasket failure but upon inspection of the oil cooler we found lots of broken piston. So far the left bank is removed and all 4 pistons are cracked. Suspect the same fate is to meet us on the right bank...
Anyway, I look forward to reading through the info on here and hope that maybe we can pay it forward and help someone else in the future!
Cheers,
Chris

Hello, Chris,
I'm sorry your eBay find has such problems. I hope you get all that resolved soon so you and dad can argue over who gets to DRIVE THE WHEELS OFF at any one time.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody. Seems a very helpful and friendly place!

Yes, I suspect it did. The car was a finance repo which has been off the road for almost 2 years. There is zero history with the car and of course all the seller knew was that the engine was really rough. Despite having only done 68k miles.
The car has evidently been cared for, as the body, interior and MOT history is good. But I suspect it's last owner was somewhat of a moron, as in my opinion this kind of damage only occurs to an engine when it really has had the wheels driven off it.

But, we'll get it right.
