2004 X-type purchased yesterday

I justpurchased a2004 x-type yesterday. It's in Ultraviolet Metallic & I LOVE it! I'm an elementary school teacher, so I feel like slapping on a bumper sticker that says "Costs the same as a Camry" but that'll ruin my car.
Unfortunately I got jerked around by the dealership, I dealt with 3 different people and each one went back on what he told me originally, but I had to deal with them because I wanted this car. So, I have a question: Do I really need to use premium gas? The dealers said no, but I don't know if I should believe them or they were just trying to sell me the car.

Yup.
I would and I do.
Any car will run better/smoother on a higher octane gas.
Mine seems to prefer Exxon... don't know why?
X-types are nice rides, I like the mid 2000's.

speaking as a Jaguar Technician
sorry to hear of the mishaps at the dealership
dont let the sales department ruin you idea of the delership as a whole
the service department is where you want to make your judgement of the dealer as a whole
and im not just saying that because im a jag service tech either lol
but seriously congrats on your new car
enjoy it
as a teacher you deserve it:-)

CONGRATS
the dealer was probably just telling you what they thought you wanted to hear in order to sell you the car; if the manual says use premium: use premium.
Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new Jag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+1 on using the premium gas. You get better gas mileage with the higher octane gas anyways...so it pays for itself in a way.

Welcome and enjoy your new Jag. I am not a Jag expert at all but I have learned a little along the way. I'm not sure about the compression ratio on your 04 X-type but I can tell you on my '97 XK8 it is 10.8:1. Most cars are around 8:1. Use premium. Here is a link that might help explain; http://science.howstuffworks.com/gasoline3.htm
Good luck andforget about dealers, gas and co-workers, push the gas pedal and ENJOY......

Thanks. I suspected that the salesmen were just saying that because gas is at an all time high. I'm glad I asked because I don't want to mess up my ride. I also got the run around with a few other things with them. Sometimes I think they don't know how to talk to a woman. Lucky for them Jaguars practically sell themselves since they're such hot looking cars.
