97 XK8 -- Uncle's former car
Hi all,
1997 XK8 Antigua Blue on Oatmeal. Revolvers. Located outside of Boston.
I've been perusing these forums for months now. My uncle went to grad school in the UK, and I suppose he fell in love with all things British. After he earned some money stateside (sometime around 2000 or 2001), he bought a few-years-old 97 XK8 and kept it as his pride and joy. About a year and a half ago (while I was still a senior in college), he passed away due to a particularly menacing bout with cancer. He didn't have time to make a will, but he was able to pass the Jag to me while he still had a sound mind. I've always loved cars, and this is technically my first, though I've put many thousands of miles on Jeeps and Audis (my DD during high school and much of college was our completely family owned 95 Grand Cherokee limited...I loved that car). As such, he knew I'd take care of it.
After going through the finicky legalities of inheriting a car without a will, I got the car just about a year ago. Flew down to Chicago with my dad and drove it back to MA.
I've just recently had the timing chain tensioners and guides replaced to the metal bits, and I've had the ABS control module replaced, too. Eventually when the water pump goes I'm hoping to fix that myself. Hopefully I'll have it back soon. I daily drive it when I have it, and it's always special. At 23, my job doesn't pay much, and I have to live with my parents to afford repairs (4 hour roundtrip commute to work in cambridge), but I think it's worth it.
Hoping someday to road trip it to every state I haven't been to before I head off to grad school in a couple years. If I've got a car, I'm going to drive it.
Thanks for all help so far, and happy to be here!
Next up is a leather seat repair and hopefully some new wheels (not a fan of the revolvers, but I do want to keep them for originality). Been trying to track down Montreals for months...would probably also go for Atlas, Apollo, or Perseus wheels. Who knows--I've got fresh rubber on the revolvers, so I can wait a while.
I named the car Toothless after the dragon in "How to Train Your Dragon"--I guess I'm showing my age there.

Welcome to the forum EnjoyEverySandwich,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
It sounds like you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Welcome to the forums. I owned a 96' Cherokee for many years, it was the most reliable and enjoyable car I have ever owned. Still kicking myself for selling it and buying a 2011 Cherokee.
