... and a few months lurking on here searching for 'Jaguar. what could possibly go wrong?' I purchased a new to me 2011 XF 3.0D.
I did own a MK11 as a callow youf when you could buy a used one for $400 but then discretion became the batter part of valour (considering the dusty reputation for reliability) for the next forty years or so.
Of course a chance meeting at a service station with an XF owner (pretty rare around here) whetted the appetite and the search ensued.
A month later I secured one for a reasonable price in Melbourne (about 2000k's away from where I live in sunny Queensland) and flew down to pick it up.
It was neat.
The drive home was neater. 2000k's of good open country in around 22 hours proved the competence of the XF as a fast open road tourer with an edge.
Not having to have license plates (because purchased interstate) made it neater still. Speed cameras? Pfft!.
My first diesel experience astounded me too. This is a fantastic motor for fast overtaking, making traffic disappear to a dot very smartly.
... and- just under 1200 kilometres from just under 70 litres? My old 2,4 4 cylinder Honda Accord Euro could but dream of those figures.
So that was a month ago, and still extremely pleased I made the jump.
I really like the original Classic XF too. Just something 'different' about them and less like other cars than the newer ones in my opinion. But then I must be a bit of a British car traditionalist I guess because I like wood in them- and Leapers too.
Already blacked out the grille
(although bumper removal was easy, I failed to get the clips off the grille with the partial bumper removal and ended up doing it plastidip in situ- worked a treat. Red for the grille badge is easy too.

Welcome to the forum Madart,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Put a tyre off the garage forecourt in England without plates and you'd be in court!
I can see you've already found your way to the X250 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
Enjoy the forums and remember you've got plates on now.
Thanks for the welcome Graham.
Yes purchasing interstate here (where each state has it's own licensing and registration) means a drive across the country (which can be considerable) without plates legally, and only a paper permit taped inside the windscreen.
It's a great opportunity to test a new car!
If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.
