I live in So. Utah (Hurricane)...I have a 1961 Jag Mark 2 3.8. The engine is not in the car and had been rebuilt in the '70s and never re-installed. I am currently acquiring the parts to rebuild the front suspension....then plan to take the engine apart to verify rebuild and do necessary work to place refresh it (rings, etc.)

I have a TON of extra parts for the car (doors, hood, trunk lid, bumpers and more).

Any advice concerning the rebuild of the car would be appreciated. I particularly would like info on improved braking and steering for now.

If anyone knows how to add rack and pinion steering and improved brake calipers and pads that could be added with a minimum machining.

I will have more questions later!

Default Welcome to Jaguar Forums

Welcome alboerner ... and greetings from another Jaguar lover in Australia. Great to have you join us, and I can offer some initial help ...
  • on the main menu go to User CP then down to Edit Signature to add a permanent note of your Jag year/model/variant/engine so that all future advice will be accurate;
  • you can do similar to customize your posts by Edit Avatar;
  • jump across to your regional section to say "hello" to those nearby and gain from their help in locating local parts and services;
  • finally, use the model specific sections of the forum, to post queries unique to your model Jaguar ... post your query about upgrading brakes and steering there, as you will gain faster and more accurate advice;
  • I do believe you are in for at least some pleasant news, in that some later Jag (front only) hubs, ventilated rotors, multi piston calipers etc are a "bolt on" replacement for the Mk2. If I remember correctly (at least with the cww's), we had to get slightly larger diameter wheels and compensating lower profile tires. No gain without some pain? Check out one of our Mk2s and S Type in my albums.
Best wishes with your project,
Ken
