Default Almost 50

Hello

My name is Al and have been a car guy for decades. Typically mustangs have been in my garage including now but as I approach 50 I've been thinking I'd like something a little more special. I've always been drawn to the XJ-S coupes. They we truly beautiful.

I've decided to buy one for my 50th birthday in spring 2016 so have 18 months to learn all I can and decide which XJS is right for me.

I'm leaning towards a pre 88 car to avoid the complexities of ABS and to gain additional leg and head room. I'm 6'4". Although I do like the newer seats and interior upgrades found post 88.

Advice welcome.

Hey Al! Welcome! I've owned 6 XJSs. By far, the most trouble free car I owned, was a 95 6.0 V12 convertible. The pre ABS cars had their own share of problems. The later cars are even more complex, but they seem to be great cars. For me, if not a convertible, then why?

Welcome.

Almost 50, damn, I wish I had that again, AND know what I know now, wow.

GregH is up your way somewhere, and lurks around from timw to time.

As said, the Pre Marelli cars are somewhat easier, but age is now getting at them. If its for your 50th and special (as all XJ-S's are) then the 6ltr Conv would also be my choice.
