Anothe newbie
Hi all,
My name, as you can see, is Rick ,and I do not own a Jaguar. Yes, I am sure many of you are yelling "OFF WITH HIS HEAD!" but I fear that wanting to own one already shows that deed has been done.
I expect the answers to most of my questions are already in many threads so I have a lot of reading to do. My situation is that I would prefer a post 2004 XK8 but find I may have to settle for the easier on the wallet older models replete with the often posted about issues. I have found several candidates in my state (GA) and south, in FL, but getting these owners to "own' up to what has been done or not has been difficult. I have found one for sale in Atlanta, from a recent member here, who has had the engine replaced (in 2006) and many other repairs, but I am still dubious about the transmission, so that will be my first order of business here.
Any advice is welcome as well as any leads. I hope that my pending purchase (or doom) will allow me to stay.

Welcome to the forum Rick,
You don't have to own a Jaguar to be here - but I don't think it will be long before you do have one!
Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR section for help, advice and information on your preferred model.
You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/lower-atlantic-nc-sc-fl-ga-66/ to find other members in this country. Members there may have knowledge of good XK8's for sale.
Enjoy the search and the forum.

Welcome to this friendly Forum, Rick.
Obviously take time to visit the various sections for models that interest you.
Look in the 'Stickies' at the top for things like buyer's guides.
The late pre 2005 models are very reliable, most of the bugs having been ironed out.
I think they're prettier than the later model, but I'm biased.

Thanks, for the welcome Graham and Steve.
I spent many hours late last night reading the combined XK threads and found the horrors within. It would seem that my main goal of locating a car with full disclosure is the way to go so that in spite of the mileage (some of these figures are shocking to me as I was brought up in day that a 100,000 mile car was already in the scrap yard save for the old banker's pre war Packard he was sure to be buried in) the repairs of the known defects is paramount.
Can I expect second owners to be able to secure the warranty records from the local Jag dealer or am I asking too much? As you might expect from my location, Atlanta, I am looking at Kathrin's beautiful blue beasty she has owned for 7 years and has put much into, including the already mentioned 2006 engine replacement, but the issue of the tranny, TB recall, front bearings, et al, are unknown. I don't mind factoring those costs into the equation, but I want to go into it with my eyes open.
Thanks, again for having me. The amount of knowledge on this forum is astounding. When reading the posts I am envious of the mechanical expertise of many of the posters (guy from Canada rebuilt his own transmission in the shed alone outback? Cold winter nights there, fella? Can I interest you in an Atlanta vacation?) and fear my only manual dexterity lies in writing checks - and not many at that.

All Jaguar dealer have access to the online Direct Dealer Warranty system. They can pull up original build spec and details of all warranty work carried out by any Jaguar dealership. If you buy from a Jaguar dealership, this should be available on request. If buying elsewhere you may have to be a little more inventive and persuasive to get a Jaguar dealer to release it!
Graham
Thank You, Graham.
I am doing just that in asking the seller to try and retrieve that information. As the current owner of the vehicle I am hopeful they, and her, will be willing to concur.
