Another Newbie!!
Hello All,
After my fateful ride home in a friends brothers 1964 or so 3.8 S-Type from mBoy Scout camp approx. 45 years ago, bought our 2001 S-Type for my wife back in 2006 with 24K on it. Love the car in spite of it being a PIA at times. Want to keep it rocking without spending too much $$$. 78K on it now and hoping to get at least another 30K. Body and chassis still reat shape, interior showing a bit of wear but considering this cars sits outside all year round and driven every winter, I am impressed how well she is holding up.
Best Regards to all!
Bill

Hi Norri,
Back in the 50's and 60's, American Hot Rods and big autos were the norm. They could go very quickly in a straight line, so on that ride back from Scout camp, I learned that good cars were not only quick but could go around corners as well. Everytime we hit some sharp bends and were traveling at a pretty decent rate I thougt we'd slip off the road but nope, this car just went around them without all the typical body roll and squealing tires. That car set the bar for every car I dreamed of owning from then on. My cars had to be quick and light on their feet and even when I got my license, a good job and my first car loan, and even though I bought a used 1972 Buick GS 455 (bought this beast approx. 6mos before the big gas crisis in 74 and almost worked a deal to trade on a 4.2 E-type coupe but was affraid of the cost of upkeep), it went around corners. I would hunt down other "sports" and "muscle" cars on freeway ramps and twisty back roads or take friends for rides who became very convinced that cars should be able to go round corners.
No matter what I have owned that old Jaguar sedan driven by my friends smiling crazy brother helped change my life for ever. And now we have this pretty pleasent 2001 S-Type that my wife and I love, so hopefully, we can keep it going and enjoy it for some time. If it behaves there will be some nice wheels and tires in it's future and just maybe a few minor mods to go with them.
Of course there is that XK8 in traditional green w/tan interior down the road????? ....lol
