Smile Another Newbie

Hi everyone. I have a '62 MK2 that I hope will someday go down the highway again. It has 36,000 original miles and has been in storage since 1974. I am working on making it into at least an 8 footer, and am continuously buying, swapping, trading parts. It is equipped with steel wheels that I want to change to wires. Although "knock-ons" are the way to go for the purist, I am leaning toward bolt-ons either Daytons or Dunlops. Does anyone know what the widest wheel is that will fit this car? Offset and width ? Thanks for any input.

Hi and welcome to the forum. There can't be many Mark 2s around with that low mileage! I rebuilt a 2.4 Mark 2 in the eighties; they are a lovely car. Wire wheels bought specifically for a Mark 2 from Jaguar specialists will fit OK. Even when still being made by Jaguar they had trouble with some tyres scraping the wing edge, and later cars had the lip relieved as radials became more common. Normal radial tyre was a 185 x 15", but I don't know if there is any offset on the wheel.

BTW what is an "8 footer" ?

Default definition of an "8 footer"

An 8 footer is a car that appears perfect from a distance of 8 feet, or more of course. It would be show quality, but not a concourse contender.

Welcome to the forum,

I wondered about the 8 footer too :-) I've owned a few cars that were not even close to that!
