another passionate new owner
Well let me start with thanking all of the forum regulars for such a wealth of information and the camaraderie they posses toward fellow lovers of the brand.
I have been in Love with Jaguars since my neighbor had an "E" type covered in his garage when I was about 5 years old. Something about the sensual yet strong lines and the balance between performance and touring ability that sets these great cars apart from all others.
I just put a deposit down on a very clean one owner 99 XK8 convertible with about 73k miles It looks Black from a distance but has a hint of metallic in it with the light tan interior. I pick it up in the morning and plan on playing "hookie" from work to enjoy the day exploring every inch of the car
I would have passed on the car because of the reputation of the older series of jaguar's for electrical and rust problems but the friendly people on this sight have put my mind at ease.
I am a capable DIY'r and will check the timing chain tensioner's first and then get into other areas as needed as well as remove some of the exhaust restrictions that give my cat "kennel cough" so she can breath freely and growl at my command.
It's a class ride and I intend to maintain the classy looks and curb appeal but update a few things to keep her rolling for years to come. An I pod adapter will be my first update that I found was a simple upgrade from the members of this site.
I plan on asking lots of questions and providing lots of input for a long time.
Thanks to all of the people who put together this site and who keep it active and such a great source of information and inspiration every day.
Barry in Northern Illinois.

Hope the neighbour was kind enough to give you a ride in the E-Type.
Your 'black with a hint of metallic' sounds like 'Anthracite' metallic coachwork with 'Oatmeal' interior.
Have a great day off.
