Big Red
Hello members. I have been registered for quite awhile but thought I should introduce myself. Also I do use this sight quite often for advice. I am the proud owner of an XJR 2000. I recently noticed a burning smell coming from engine area. Wasnt too sure if it was in need of another oil change as I drove it daily for the past six months. Went to my local shop just to ask as a precaution.. Booked appointment for an exam. Just as I was heading home a warning light came on. “Low Coolant”.
i wonder if it is an aging seal, gasket, etc or water pump failure. If you folks have any advice I am definitely listening. I will post a photo of my handsome beasty.
thanks

Welcome to the forums Firehorse,
The burning smell could be from pinholing in the base of the Expansion Tank allowing coolant to drip onto the hot exhaust manifold where it vapourises immediately producing a burning smell but no evidence of leakage. Over time, this causes the coolant level in the tank to drop and eventually triggers the Low Coolant warning.
I expect you've already found your way to the X308 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
