Default Bout to jump in to a Jag experience

Joining to learn what I can from the forum on Jag sports cars...two in particular are the F-type and the XKR. Currently looking to purchase a 2012 XKR with 30k miles; this to see how much maintenance I can do on the XKR myself and perhaps find a service shop, be it the dealer. Some dealers will rebuild your car for you if you let them...No experience with Jaguar shop. Not sure if there are any 'show stoppers' to owning a 2012 XKR, like dealers won't work on older cars or hard to find parts...
The plan would be to get 200k miles out of the XKR...maybe put 5-8k a year on it...

Lots of questions...

Dad had a '61 Austin Healy Bug Eyed Sprite we drove and worked on.
Currently maintaining a '73 Volvo 145 (second owner/odometer broke at 149k) and a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer with 209k (original owner/engine/transmission)

Hello, Jim,
As you're already accustomed to DIY maintenance, a Jag of the age you speak of will be no problem for you.
I wish you success in your search for the Puuurrrrfect Jaguar!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Default I can share my thoughts on the F-type

First of all welcome aboard.
“Joining to learn what I can from the forum on Jag sports cars...two in particular are the F-type and the XKR. Currently looking to purchase a 2112 XKR”
I must preface this by saying my mechanic likes the XK models a lot. I believe the later models of XKRs had about 500hp at the brake. They have a tiny back seat, but they are suitable for smaller passengers. I personally think they are stylist looking and they are not high on annual maintenance. I have a couple of Jaguars myself, and I am very pleased to be part of the owners club here. I have an S-type base and an F-type. My father had an XJS and my uncle had an XJ12 sedan. Something about a sedan like the one you are about to purchase is very special. They look so innocent until you push, and then you realize why they called them a sleeper. If you get an F-type, some perform a lot better than others. I believe the F-type S is set up quite nicely. The six cylinder 380 hp engine car perfectly with rear wheel drive. The entry-level base just seems to be a slightly underpowered and the suspension is permanently tight and doesn’t have the instant adjustment That the S has. to me, the all-wheel-drive is too touchy and the way the balances on this particular car where it is 50-50, I have not experienced oversteer or understeer which makes it very predictable. If you are taller than 6’2” you might want one that is a year 2017 or later because they slightly expanded the legroom.. If you want, what I’ve been told is the ultimate performance in terms of power and absolutely superb handling you might want to investigate the SVR in an all-wheel-drive set up. It has a monster engine with 550+ horsepower, and the way the all-wheel-drive is set up, more traction goes to the rear then it does to the front. This makes the handling legendary according to the experts.
Good luck and please share your pictures and your stories.
