Default Can't believe I finally own a VDP!

Greetings from cold and snowy RI!! I am a newbie here after having lurked for a few weeks. I primarily joined because I have found forums to be a wealth of knowledge and experience. I hope to contribute where I can, but I'll be honest: my knowledge on these Jags is minimal. If you have questions about Miata's or Dodge Rams, I'm your guy! LOL
No lie, I will be asking a lot of questions regarding my currently NON-running 1996 VDP and encourage all questions that would help to get it started and in tip-top condition.
I used to work at Jake Kaplan Jaguar when they were located in Providence, RI. That was QUITE some years ago. Even though I worked in the service department as a driver I have forgotten a lot of the little tricks of the trade related to these cars. I've wanted to own a Jag despite the reputation of the high cost of maintenance for quite a while and particularly like the XJS convertibles. Maybe some day I'll be able to trade in my VDP for one.
Anyhow, I look forward to "meeting" members of this forum and I thank you all in advance for the help you've provided through posts already.

Welcome to the forum Richard,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. Sorry to hear your VdP is a non-runner. you should start a thread in the X300 tech section detailing the issues and what you have done so far in troubleshooting.

You probably already know your way to the tech section but if not, follow this link XJ X300 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X300 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the US North East Region forum by following this link North East US - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Welcome to Jag Forums Richard.

You will come up with quite a few ideas in X300 on how to get "started" with your new VDP. Take a look at Bernie's "Birthday Jag" thread, if you haven't already. He started with a non-runner and has come a long, long way with it.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ay-jag-104159/

You will discover that many fixes and improvements can be made with minimal cost. All it takes is the willingness to learn about it, then go and do it! It is rewarding to get things back in order, one thing at a time. See you around!

Thank you EVERONE for the pleasant welcome!! I appreciate the time it takes to reach out to a newbie.
I have EXCELLENT news...... (wait for it.....)
Yup, the cat has life! Turns out that in my haste to get the car home I reassembled the previous sellers dismantling of the shifter incorrectly. Totally missed the gear selector slide that the shifter goes into. Plus, I had to replace the transmission modular "thing" (I think it was part number 10025, or something like that) along the right side the shift assembly. Got it from a wrecked VDP in the local pick your parts yard. First turn of the key...... VROOOOOM!!
Now I just have some minor cosmetics which I'll address in the proper posting area, and the steering wheel tilt and telescope motor(s)
thanks again..... I'll be back on when I get home from this road trip
