Default car theives

Hi, keep an eye on your Jaguars, someone tried to steal my headlights and bumpers a couple of weeks ago, you might consider watching your car closer, some parts are very hard to find, some impossible.

How would they try to steal those, those are not quick and easy parts to get off w/o breaking them....silly silly people!

Yes they did break the headlight trim and and put a bunch of scrapes underneath the headlight trying to get it out, and they took the cosmetic trim that covers the screws that hold the bumper on. I am really mad. It is not a new car where I can get parts easily, it is a 1988 Jaguar XJS, and the headlights are really difficult if not impossible to find, I can get the quad lights easily but not the single large headlight that come on some XJS's. And the headlights if I can find them are around $800. USD for the pair plus $200. USD for the light trims. By the time I pay taxes and shipping plus the exhange on the dollar, plus duty at the border the cost will run me about $1150.00 to replace them, that is why they tried to steal them in the first place because they don't make these lights anymore, and they are nearly impossible to find. I might have a contact in California but there is no guarantee he has them or could find them.

Hey Jetlag Welcome to the Forum. That is surely a sad tale for an introduction. If your insurance won't cough up why not try to post in the Wanted section, you never know.

I know how you feel. I had my Mercedes broken into twice in one year. Because the interior pieces are a premium price here.

I have had my XJ6 for about a year now & no one even thinks about it. Stealing 25 year old parts off of a car in a country that may only have 4 or 5 remaining..... not a smart thing to do. Trying to ship the parts out of here costs an arm & a leg. So it would in no way profit anyone.
I keep a decent $100CD player in it, but take off the face, so it would be worthless to anyone & keep the interior completely clear of anything.

I saw a few people here & there looking into it, only because they never see these cars anymore & are VERY surprised to see one on the road.
A jewel like this in a 3rd world country, no one wants to bother it, they all admire it. I even had one guy rear end another guy because he saw the car & was so surprised, he gave me a nod & thumbs up, then hit the car in front of him.

Hi, thanks for the welcome, the headlight trim is $100. and the deductable is $100. My insurance company will put it through if I want to but it is the same for the light and the deductable, but I still have to find the trims that cover the bumpers screws.
My greatest concern now is that they may come back and steal ALL the removable parts from the car. We are going to move so that we have a garage to keep my Jags in.

Where are you that no one will bother your car?
I live in a nice neigbourhood and still it does not matter, thieves are thieves, no conscience, no morals and no respect for the fact that we EARN our right to drive nice cars rather than live like the crackheads that they are~!~!~!
I often get drivers driving by and not paying attention too and gawking at my car, there is not many XJS's here and NO ONE but me drives one in the winter here, so I am an oddball for sure ha ha ha....

You got that right. Friend of mine had two leapers torn off his S-Type. Many Jags in Toronto driving around with no hood cat. That's just vandalism. Indoor parking almost mandatory these days anywhere.

welcome to the site Jetlag

As for thieves? They will be thieves and if they want sumthin of yours generally they'll find a way to get it
All you can really do ( no matter where you live ) is be as vigilant as possible and do everything you can to try to prevent it.
I feel your pain though..feels like a real kick in the nuts I guess
